“Travel is a powerful force for good,” saysTravel + Leisure magazine Editor-in-Chief Nancy Novogrod in the November issue, a special issue dedicated to responsible travel. The issue examines the forces of change and how they are affecting the diversity and singular qualities of destinations, with an emphasis on conservation, cultural preservation, and sustainable development.
- In “20 Trips to Change Your World” (page 99), T+L offers easy itineraries for travelers looking to make a difference on the road.
- The magazine’s special “Good to Go” report (pages 51-74) looks at trends in responsible travel (local food; green spas; sustainable architecture) and highlights destinations on the rise.
- Jeff Wise’s dispatch from Greenland, “The Melting Point” (page 159), marks the fourth installment of T+L’s series on global warming, launched in January 2007.
- After vetting properties around the world with a comprehensive green-hotel assessment, T+L picks the top properties that are going the distance in “Our 15 Favorite Green Hotels” (page 117). See below release for more on the green hotels.
- In “Electric Avenue” (page 184), David Morris examines the future of the American road trip: all-electric cars.
- T+L announces the winners of the annual “Global Vision Awards” (page 207), paying tribute to the people and organizations working to maintain the world’s vibrancy and variety. T+L will make a charitable donation to Future Generations, the 2007 award-winner in the Ecological Conservation category for its people-based conservation work in Tibet.
