Perhaps you are wondering why things have been a bit mum over here at the Accidental Environmentalist. Well, it wasn’t exactly writers block so rest assure I am not going to moan about that. It is because I have been catching up on my naps. I am expecting our first child in March and so I have been dealing with that the past couple of weeks. EC and I are very excited.
So perhaps you can forgive my sporadic posts the last two weeks. It has been a quite an adjustment for me and my changing body. More to come; I am sure. So lately I have been noticing that I have been bit fanatical in my approach to living more Eco-friendly life. Where as before it was fun has now become a source of contention between my boyfriend and me. It has also made me feel extra guilty if I decide to take a bath and if I buy anything with plastic. So I am reclaiming my life with a bit of rein in on greening my life. Although I have become more diligent; it has also become a burden to feel that I have to green every aspect of my life. I am going to continue to do things for the environment (such as continuing to use Eco-Bag) and gradually add on instead of trying to do everything at once. I respect the environmentalists who can take it all the way but I am still that girl who loves to shop and own a beautiful shoes once in awhile. To me taking a balance approach to sustainable living is the best solution and motto I like to follow.
On another positive note, EC and I were driving around NE PA and we found some Wind Farms and those white turbines are majestic to behold. They are mammoth. That’s for sure. And looks much more cleaner and natural than a coal plant. I will be sure to take some pictures next time we come across them. And my bonnie plant is bearing some bell peppers. I am really proud of this accomplishment.

Hi Jolly Green Girl
From what I’ve been reading, you’re doing ok, so don’t beat yourself up. Keep up the good work, and you’ve got a great adventure ahead from the sound of it.

Congratulations on your little greenie-to-be! Take care of yourself and get those naps in!

Congratulations on the big event! It’s a good idea to nap now - You’ll need the rest later!
I have three kids and have to say that concern for them was one of the reasons I began blogging on eco issues myself.
Anyway best of luck with everything. We’ll be here when you have time to write.

How exciting! Yes, get your naps girl. And don’t stress over the green stuff. Think of it as a journey and take the time you need to get wherever you feel you need to be.

Congratulations!
I think ‘greeness’ is about awareness and you seem very aware of the issues. I just try and live as green as I can without too much stress.

Congratulations! And, ooh, bell peppers, I’ve been growing those for the first time too. Between those and the tomatoes and green onions, I’ve been real pleased that we don’t have to rely on the grocery store quite so much for our summer veggies.

Congratulations on the bub news!!!
Being a mother will make all the environmental contortions even more interesting, as there is a pro/con argument for every angle of being one, and whichever way you choose you will be wrong in someone’s eyes.
So I say good start as you mean to follow - keep the “I am a woman trying to be an environmentalist” consciousness, because the “I am an environmentalist trying to be a mother” hoists you on many petards!!

Thanks.

Hey! Congratulations, even though you probably feel sick right now, haha. I’m expecting my first in a month ^_~. Best wishes to you in the coming months.
Don’t stress about living green, you’ll have enough to freak you out as it is. And really, it comes even MORE naturally now that you’re pregnant. As you’ll be investing in baby’s future, it gets easier spending the extra dollar on that grapefruit, or avoiding that take-out that comes in plastic. You won’t want that junk building up in baby anyway and you want her to be able to go to Alaska and see those polar bears. It’s gotten easier.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I suppose I’m a bit behind on the congrats though.
As for taking greening step by step, Iknow for me it is the only way I’ll be able to keep up with the changes and really truly integrate them into my life. Once I master one “green” way of doing something, I move onto something new, that way I reduce how often I become overwhelmed… which can be often!
Best of luck to you and the little one!

I think its important to green up a bit at a time, otherwise its just so overwhelming.
