One of the old stand-bys like the Radio City Rockettes, the Rockefeller Christmas tree has always rang in the holiday season for the big apple. However, this year the 84 foot tall Norway Spruce will get an Eco-friendly make-over by switching over to LED lights. What more, the LED lights will be solar powered by panels on top of the Rockefeller center.
LED is the must have green holiday decoration this year. It’s more efficient than incandescent bulbs. According to CNN, the LED lights on the Rockefeller tree will reduce the display’s electricity consumption from 3,510 to 1,297 kilowatt hours per day. Even Ideal Bite had something nice to say.
The best part is that you can pick these babies up at your nearest Home Depot, or you can order The Brookstone LED Lights online. They go for about $20 a pop but will save on your electricity bill and the environment in the long run.
And when the old stand by is ready to come down; it will be cut into lumber to be used in houses built by Habitat for Humanity. This is a indeed the beginning of a jolly green holidays.

That is awesome indeed! LED’s should be the future of lighting as the prices come down! My grandparents got LED’s this year for their tree and they were very cool to the touch, even after being on all day. Good Post.

I am going to see the tree next week. My friend that works in Rockefeller Center says it is the most beautiful since he has been there (1974).

Hey a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. And the best part is it is eco-friendly. But I must say a fantastic idea to give the whole tree such beautiful lighting with solar power. Solar power has always been underestimated.
