Savior Bags are Tongue In Cheek Way To Ban Plastic Bags

I am pretty anal about bringing my Envirosax bags to our weekly grocery excursion. I might forget them if we are running errands, but usually we are good about bringing our un-plastic bags to Wegmans, (We moved past the greenwashing Wal-Mart, finally) and I am pretty darn proud (on both accounts). Unfortunately, the small bag, however durable, isn’t enough at times. We usually end up hand carrying it or use paper bags as the last resort. But now with the Savior bags; the problem is easily solved. And it’s made with fun graphics that’s quite kitschy. According to Jessica Shinyeda, co-founder, “it’s really tongue in cheek.”

Pretty impressive and I REALLY love the graphics on these stylish barrel bags. The Gandhi with “Be the Change You Want to See In the World” was especially made for me, figuratively speaking. The bags are very well constructed and the canvas is thick and soft. Although initially I was put off by the short nylon handles, Jennifer Shinyeda, the other brainchild for Savior Bags, assured me that the handles were meant to be carried, “We designed the bag to carry the equivelent of 3 plastic bags of groceries. That can get heavy. If you are carrying two, we felt most comfortable walking down the street carrying them like bags.”

Merrily Shinyeda, which completes the trio of savvy green Ecopreneurs behind Savior Bags, explains that these alternative to plastic bags are made in Arizona under fair labor. So you can do good for the environment with an added perk of keeping the jobs here and not exploiting impoverished countries. With a lot of flack that China is getting for their quality control; American made products seem to be the rage nowadays.

Overall, I am highly impressed with the workmanship of these bags. The graphics are ultra cool, and although my dog sheds so much that tumbleweeds are rolling across the floor; the bag repels her hair along with water and mildew. So furry pet owners; don’t be afraid of this one. The bags are pretty substantial. They will not fit into your purse, however; with the fun graphics; you can carry this around without being all crunchy granola. I think I have a new love!
