We all know that plastic kills. It kills the marine life when it gets littered. It seeps toxics into the Earth and takes an eternity biodegrade. Even Ikea has subtly banned it by charging you if you decide to go with plastic. Paper isn’t much better either because well, you are killing the trees. (Am I being too hardcore? Nah, just trying to bring some brevity into this post) Well tree killers, we have a new way method of saving the planet. Go with cotton! It’s durable, reusable, and good for the Environment.
I found these great Ecobags online. The company was also featured in Vogue and even on Oprah I hear. Eco-Bags opened for business in 1989 with a simple goal; to produce quality bags at great prices so that “Reusable becomes a way of life.”
I just ordered the E Shopping system which comes with String bag, Recycled Canvas Bag, and Produce bags so you don’t even have to use the produce plastic to lug your Organic Veggies. It takes all the guess work out of what bags you need. But you can also order it individually. They have regular cotton, hemp, Organic Cotton, and recycled cotton. They also come in array of colors so you are not stuck with drabby oatmeal color. Let your personality shine with neon colors that will make Austin Powers proud.
And what to do with the plastic bags you have been accumulating? Take it to Wal-Mart. They have a plastic bag recycling bin in the entrance of their store. You don’t have to shop there. Just chuck it and be on your merry way.

Damn you, Jolly Green Girl!
You make using these bags sound like so much fun and so..so… sensible.
I was muttering at you under my breath the entire time I was placing my order.
I can’t wait till I get them so I can silk-screen the Exxon logo on the side.
*evil grin*
Seriously…digging your info and your take on things, as always.

I didn’t know Wal-Mart will take your bags for recycling. That’s interesting.
I haven’t used cloth bags (though it’s a good idea), but we’ve been making sure that we use as few bags as possible and give the plastic things we do collect some extra lives.

That’s great! What’s better than being able to reuse a bag over and over? Nothing really.
I’m totally going to consider getting myself some.

Hi there! Just to add it’s notjust Wal-Mart that accepts the plastic bags, I’ve seen a similar sollection point at a nearby Jewel-Osco too… just keep your eyes out when visiting such supermarkets
btw - what are your thoughts on garbage bags? I currently use bags from the grocery store for garbage [I return the holey ones only!], did they ever come up with something more environmentally-friendly for our trash?

LOL Agreed. I bring along my own tote bags sewn from old flowery sheets

That’s great Felicia. I wish I had a sewing machine to make my own bags! I am thinking about buying one or my friend might have an old one I can get from her. She’s a fashion designer, so I am sure she has couple not being used.
Willow, I have actually been looking into garbage bags that are biodegradable but found only one on Amazon.com. I wish stores would just sell them so it’s convenient to get. I will look into it more.
Yes, check to see if your grocery store also recycles the bags. It’s always good to reuse them. That’s what we have been doing… but these cloth bags were too hard to resist.

I think plastic has got to be one of the worst things ever invented. I have just come back from the beautiful island of Canna in Scotland and lots of plastic get washed up on shore. Most of it is fishing nets but there’s also plastic bottles.
Apparently plastic gets washed up from all over the world.
It’s sad.

Susie,
Thanks very much for the order. The product you ordered is made up of 3 different items, one of which was out of stock.
On in stock items it takes 24-48 hours to fulfill.
I think what is happening is that there is a huge demand for a solution to the plastic bag problem.
Best,
Andrew
