phone recycle

Last year, I splurged on a brand new cell phone, SLVR. If you don’t know what that is, it was one the biggest phone to hit last year. Perhaps it didn’t get as much coverage as the Apple Iphone, but it was one of the few phones that had built MP3 Player into it. I was very pleased with my purchase because usually I opt for the free phone that’s included when you sign the contract. However, my phone became a let down. The headphone worked half the time, reception was terrible, and after a year, it just wasn’t functioning properly. So I decided to use the extra phone EC had gotten for free and the irony is that the free phone works much better than the one I paid $300 for. Well, now the dilemma is what to do with my old phone.

It’s still usable and I am sure someone would really enjoy it. So I found a site where you can mail in your old cell phones. It helps to recycle and keeps it away from landfill. Charitable Recycling is a great place to start. The best part? They donate part of the proceeds to a charity so your cell phone will also help fund great causes. And if you are looking for some tax break, it’s tax deductible. They were nominated for 2004 EPA Award and you can also send off your ink cartridges too.

Eco-Cell is another cell phone recycler. If you have 10 or More Recyclable Cell Phone, you can request a free shipping label or use one of their drop off center. You can also mail it in to them. This program also donates part of their proceeds to the charity of your choice.

Why not start a fund-raiser in your community and do a cell phone drive? Everyone has an old cell phone they would love to pawn off to someone else.
