After my fiasco with composting last year; I have been a bit reluctant to attempt it again. Albeit, I don’t think a stainless steel trash can is the way to go when you are a beginner composter. Composters.com, your online resource for compost bins, have an array of methods for your gardening needs. They have everything from Vermicomposting (those squiggly little worms that eat your veggie scraps) to compost tumblers. I am pretty impressed with the selection they have. When asked what composter will be good for a newbie like me; Richard Ho, the spokesperson for Composters had couple of suggestions.
The Garden Gourmet: Not too small and not too big. Just perfect and for under $100; it’s a very jollylicious find. I
think this will be on my get next list.
Or how about a fully automatic kitchen composter? (pictured above) Very high tech and sleek. I think its perfect for the closet environmentalists. You can’t even tell it’s a composter.
For the cold weather states, try the Earthmaker, not unlike the Garden Gourmet, but insulated to keep the chill out. It also has vents made for moisture like rain to keep the pile moist. It’s also a great find for just above $100.
Composting is an awesome way to minimize your family’s trash output and also get a great FREE fertilizer for your Organic garden. What more could you ask for? And to go along with that composter, why not also try a rain barrel. A great way to conserve water and use it for your garden. (also on my to get list or maybe a wine barrel?)
The best part, Now, you can get 5% off with composters.com if you CALL IN your order. All you have to do is call in to make a purchase and mention AE and get 5% off anything off Composters.com. The 5% discount can also be used on Eco-lights.com and Eco-furniture.com sites as well. How jollylicious is that? Don’t say I never did anything for ya!

here’s a question i have about composting…because i live in a household of two, there isn’t much food waste in our compost. there is, however, LOTS and LOTS of coffee grounds. I’m wondering if its okay to have a compost over 50% full of coffee?!

I am with you on the composting disaster in my past. My garden really could use the materials being put back into the soil, but I needed a simpler way. This looks pretty good.

This is a great idea for people not wanting to deal with a compost outside. I agree that it looks sleek and is much easier to deal with than the traditional compost.

Amazing, I just dropped over to check up on you and see how you’ve been since the baby arrived, and found this - I actually am looking for a good composter.
They won’t allow compost piles in our neighborhood (someone finds them unsightly, despite how useful compost is), but this is just the sort of thing I could use instead.
Always need good compost come spring time for all of the plantings.
Hope you’re doing well, buddy. Just wanted to stop over and say hi and say that I’ve missed you over at BC lately.
