My blog friend who runs his blog, Cymru66, wrote a blog post about his beer of the month club, you can read it here. This led to a discussion if there was any Eco-friendly beers out there. Then couple days later, I get an e-mail from Ideal Bite (I subscribe to it and it’s awesome) with fabulous tips on Eco-brewing. It must be fate!
According to Ideal Bite, you should drink locally produced beer to help sustainable economy. It cuts down transportation needs so there is less carbon footprint, and you support your local farmers economically. It’s a win win situation. And I found that most microbrewery have very good and distinctive beers that far surpass the bottled domestic beers. (Jolly Green Girl thinks most domestic beer tastes rank)
Your other option is of course buying Organic Beers. One notable brewery that’s getting accolades is Otter Creek Brewing. It’s a marriage of two Organic breweries, Otter Creek and Wolavers’s. They are located in Vermont and support sustainable living by using all the local ingredients. It also has no less than 98% of Organic Ingredients. And of course, it’s certified.
They have a brewery tour if you are ever in the area (I think it’s time Jolly Green Girl took a trip up to Vermont) and they have a list by state of suppliers you can locate. Unfortunately, it’s not available in all states. I have included the links of locations of where they are distributed.
Organic Fred offers a personal account with Wolaver’s Organic Beer and there’s a discussion on what other Organic beers are out there. You might want to check it out.

Hi! Thanks for the eco-brew information. It is so nice to see that organic brews are becoming more available. I went to the Organic Fred.com site to check out their personal account…good info. Their website is pretty interesting. Their t-shirt logos are hysterical! I love the “Will Work for Organic Food” shirt.
Thanks again for the great information.

I live for Rogue Ales from Newport, OR.
A great site to find local Ale is Pubcrawler.com I use it in my travels all of the time.

I love real ales! Scotland and the north of England have a lot of good small breweries making excellent distinctive beer. My favourite is Froach, made from heather. Astonishingly the supermarket across the road stocks it! (Otherwise I’d never go to the supermarket as we’re lucky to have lots of good small shops round here).
