I am a huge wine lover. I haven’t had a chance to imbibe in the last year due to my pregnancy and now due to breastfeeding. So it’s been a pretty dry household. However, last week, I broke down and decided to get a bottle of white wine to go with fish we got at Wegmans. At the local wine store, I came across certified Organic wines from Bonterra Vineyards in Mendocino County. The 2006 Chardonnay was on sale.
Excited, we got home, chilled it, and uncorked that baby. First taste, and I was a bit taken back. It was VERY fruity. Almost like fermented apple juice. I wasn’t sure if I liked it at first; but I let it breathe and it was actually better at room temperature. According to Bonterra Vineyard’s website:
Chardonnay offers characteristic green apple, baked apple, pear and citrus notes in the wine. There’s a touch of vanilla from the dollop of new French Oak. An initial impression of rich, buttery cream quickly turns to aromas of honey and lightly toasted almonds, followed quickly by tropical aromas of pineapple, citrusy lemon and Crème Brûlée.
Okay, I didn’t get the creme brulee or the vanilla, but definitely got the apple and pear part. I didn’t finish the bottle. Instead, I used the rest to make Tilapia with White wine. Just add butter, Portabella mushroom, Garlic, and Red Pepper and it’s divine.
I am going to try the reds next. Maybe I will have a better luck with Red. I prefer Reds anyways. All in the name of research.

Nice, what does it say about the organic ingredients?
I’m so dry. I could SO use a glass right now!

Hmm, organic wine…interesting. I’m still a new drinker, and wine doesn’t agree with my wimpy palate for the most part - however, the sweeter the better. I’ll check this one out.
Oh, and I love Wegman’s!

I’m a huge wine lover and have tried a few different organic wines, but found most of them don’t have the quality of flavor of regular wines. Hopefully as the market for organic wines increase, there will be better selection. Good luck with your research.

I haven’t tried any organic wine yet; now I have to wait a year since I’m pregnant.

I’m not a huge fan of wine — but that’s interesting! I’ve never heard of an organic wine before. Is it expensive?

I have had two organic wines in the past and they have been fairly inexpensive and taste pretty good. I agree with Dagny that hopefully more selection of organic wines come out as people start to demand them more.
