Today I was watching the News which is a pretty rare occasion for me and the Environmental Protection Agency spokesperson was on the show talking about Environmental Responsibility. According to EPA, it is a responsibility of all human beings to care and protect the Environment. Green Consumerism is the new catch phrase that has taken hold in modern society. People are becoming more aware that the Earth can not continue to sustain the lifestyle we have become accustomed to. It is our social responsibility to care for our planet and teach the future generation to care for it also.
The first thing you can do is cut down on your automobile consumption. The EPA states that this is the number one contributor to Global Warming. One of the things you can do is not to drive too fast. More speed means that more gas is being used, and also don’t use your car as a storage facility. Take out your golf clubs before you head into work. Consider biking to work couple days a week. I had a friend who commuted to his law office everyday on his bicycle. He beat the traffic and always came home with a smile. Try walking sometime. Walking is one of the best way you can stay in shape and help the Environment. Another tip is to fill your gas up at night. Less emissions of gas and fumes. This is particularly important in the hotter months.
Thinking about purchasing a new car? Opt to purchase a Hybrid. There’s so much more options than ever before. Even some luxury car makers are going green. Turbo Diesel is also an option and you can even make your own oil! Biodiesel is becoming immensely popular and there’s so many websites that teach you how to make your own. Some even use vegetable oil. Pretty nifty, I think.
If you are fortunate enough to live in the city; use public transportation. Public transportation is a perfect way to people watch or catch up on a great book. I used to love riding the subway in New York City because I saw so much things that I would have never gotten to see if I had taken a cab or drive around in my own vehicle.
The EPA concluded that the people are becoming aware about living Green and taking their own actions without governmental regulation. The goal of the EPA is to become produce 25% less emission by the year 2017. Let’s help EPA not only achieve that goal but also to surpass it.

These are interesting ideas but, some of them don’t always apply depending on where you might live. I live in Texas for example, and biking to work in the summer months would be a hard sale for many people. There are many things we can all do to help lower our own gasoline bill as well as help the environmnet - consolidate your driving; for example, stop making single drives to places like the grocery store and the bank. Making a single outing to go multiple locations can save you time and gas. http://e85.whipnet.net/flex.cars/smart.driving.html
I think that Alternative fuels are a great option; America needs to step back from it’s widespread use of fossil fuel. Granted, the current cost of alternative fuel production is high but, with enough research and development, that can be changed. http://e85.whipnet.net/what.is.ethanol/index.html

Erm… yes some typos there.. sorry..ok.. here we go again… Freeloader (oh I did spell it right.. sorry I got you confused with my fellow Eco-blogger Freethinker) I agree with you totally. But I do think that even if you live in a place like Texas; there are other things you can do to offset the driving. Your suggestions are all real good. I think it’s trying to find ways you can help the environment that fits in your situation. Once it’s in your daily routine then going green is something you don’t really think about. I think people need to start being aware of how they shop… and how their actions can help or hinder the environment. it can’t be a me me me mentality. We have to balance our needs with the needs of the world too. Thanks for stopping by… and not speeding and not using car as a storage place is something even a Texan can do.

Jolly Green Girl,
Before Industrialization humans killed Environment primarily for Food. After industrialization humans are killing environment for Food and [unnecessary]Consumer Goods.
Industrial Society is destroying necessary things[Animals, Trees, Air, Water and Land] for making unnecessary things[Consumer Goods].
In this context I want to post a part from my article which examines the impact of Speed, Overstimulation, Consumerism and Industrialization on our Minds and environment. Please read.
Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment.
The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature.
The link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues.
Subject : In a fast society slow emotions become extinct.
Subject : A thinking mind cannot feel.
Subject : Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys the planet.
Subject : Environment can never be saved as long as cities exist.
Emotion is what we experience during gaps in our thinking.
If there are no gaps there is no emotion.
Today people are thinking all the time and are mistaking thought (words/ language) for emotion.
When society switches-over from physical work (agriculture) to mental work (scientific/ industrial/ financial/ fast visuals/ fast words ) the speed of thinking keeps on accelerating and the gaps between thinking go on decreasing.
There comes a time when there are almost no gaps.
People become incapable of experiencing/ tolerating gaps.
Emotion ends.
Man becomes machine.
A society that speeds up mentally experiences every mental slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety.
A ( travelling )society that speeds up physically experiences every physical slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety.
A society that entertains itself daily experiences every non-entertaining moment as Depression / Anxiety.
Fast visuals/ words make slow emotions extinct.
Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys emotional circuits.
A fast (large) society cannot feel pain / remorse / empathy.
A fast (large) society will always be cruel to Animals/ Trees/ Air/ Water/ Land and to Itself.

I want to recommend a e-book that I have read. It’s a manual on how to install a hydrogen generator in your car. Which lets your car be fuel by water. This will be good for motor tranportation that is relying on forgien oil that clogs up the air. The link to the site to buy the book is by my name.
