I came across a t-shirt today that said Eco-warrior and immediately I thought about the warrior poses in Yoga. Warrior Pose is a powerful yet deceptibly simple pose that harnesses inner strength to overcome obstacles. It doesn’t use brute force and it’s not an impressive pose has you trapezing in the air like an acrobat. It’s a mental pose that prepares you for the battle ahead internally.
And that’s how I try to approach environmentalism. There are some who are so forceful that you are literally choking on their passion. While I admire their fire, dogmatic stance in anything usually scares people off rather than bring people together. Then there are the ones who seem to be doing it because being eco-friendly has become trendy. While being a fad has it’s advantages, let’s hope that it doesn’t go out of style like last years Chloe bag (my favorite designer).

This pose puts points both hand towards the sky. It’s gaining strength from the heaven and harnessing the energy at a point from top of your raised fingertips and rooted deeply onto the earth. So as environmentalists, we should gather our energy intrinsically and become deeply rooted to our cause.

From Warrior One you open up your arms and spread them out from your body. This is an open pose but there’s still strength from your hands and energy is dispelled through out. You are choosing to act from love not out of fear. So instead of using the “gloom and doom” method, spead your message with positivity. Lightheardedness and humor can be good even if it’s a serious issue like Global Warming. That’s why I love sites like Ideal Bite and Environmental Talk.

This is known as the peaceful warrior, you dip your hand and head back and arch your back as if you are surrendering gracefully to whatever force is at hand and then come up to a balanced pose of standing on one leg with your arms and legs stretched parallel to the ground. Finally you are soaring in balance and harmony. Not by brute force but rather in peace. Perhaps this is what Gandhi was referring to by non-violence.
As old saying goes… be flowing like a river over rocks in overcoming your obstacles.

I agree that slow and steady wins the environmental race. When it comes to conservation and the greening of America it is a marathon and not a sprint with a high leg kick at the end that will get the results we need.

In our own little ways we could help to make this campaign a success. If all people join and be one I’m sure we could fight Global Warming!

This post is inspiring, thank you. I think it all comes down to being at peace with and within yourself and what you stand for. The best way to create the world we want, is to create it and live it NOW within your own space - something in which you have total control. You make that space grow, not by being dogmatic and forcing people to subscribe to your ideas overnight, but by influencing people to follow your steadfast but peaceful example.

I think we all need to do our own part. If enough people join in doing their own part, we will enact huge change!

You know, I used to think that enviromentalists were ok. While I have allways thought them a bit extreme in thier methods, I stood back and watched them with a “Live and let live” kind of attitude. I watched as they tied themselves to trees and protested nucular energy. I watched as they spiked trees to stop them from being cut down to save the spotted owl, endangering loggers and whiping out communites of people who depended on logging for thier income. Sure, I can see someone standing up with commitment to want to save the enviroment, the general idea is a noble cause.
But then I thought “What would a REAL enviromentalist do?…how would someone live if they were genuinely concerned with the enviroment?” Well the answer is quite obvious to me. Recycling does not count in my book because they would just be using wood someone else bought making them a parasite of someone that did buy and use the wood.
First thing I tought was they would want to save trees. I though of this first since my ealiest memory of enviromentalists were the “Tree huggers” I saw on the news as a child. Well if you really wanted to save trees you would not use anything made out of wood right? So that means no paper use at all. No news papers, no paper bags, no stationary at all. No wooden furniture. No pencils, no popcicle or icecream bars with the little sticks. No toilet paper obviously. Absolutly no houses since they are made from lots of wood.
They would not use any gasoline or any petrolium products what-so-ever. No gas, no diesel, no heating oil, no petrolium byproducts. Plastic by the way is made from oil so none of that. No electricity since most of it comes from power plants that use petolium fuel. No telephones, Television, microwave ovens, stoves, stereos, computers, or anything that uses elctricity. Remember electronic devices contain plastic and insulators so those are a no no. No makeup, shaving cream, soap, deoderant, hairspray, shampoo, motoroil, grease, cooking spray, or alcohol, since they all have some kind of oil or are sold in plastic contaners. In fact once you eliminate paper or plastic you can not buy anything from a supermarket unless you dump it into your hands and carry it out without the container, being ever so carfull not to spill any and polute the enviroment.
So cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, jetskis, motorboats or anything using any type of fuel would obviously be out of the question. But so would byicycles, solar panels, batterys, electric cars, or even shoes because they all use plastic. Any type of medical treatment cannot be used if it uses plastic, oil, or wood so that means no EKG, surgery, vaccines, syringes, X-Rays, IVs, or even ambulances since they use all 3 so you have to walk there even if your legs are broken. Doubt they could do much for you anyways without using wood, oil, plastic or electricity because you have to stay true to your beliefs right?
So let’s see now…we live in a cave to be enviromentaly friendly, we dress in grass skirts to avoid using any manufactured product since they use everything we refuse to. So we catch a fish for dinner being carful to check that it is not endangered and we cook it over a fire…but wait a minute…we have to cut down a tree for the fire. Well we can’t do that, besides it woukd polute the atmosphere. Oh my god…we are cavemen with no fire. We have, by choice, elimiated 65 million years of progress all in the name of the environment.
No thanks, I think I’ll risk the danger of being called an anti-evoromentalist so I can keep my modern life. If you dissagree I won’t really care because if you were a REAL enviromentalist you would not dare to reply and reveal that you are a FAKE enviromentalist with the PC you are not supposed to have.
