I have decided to do a bi-weekly round up of my articles on Eco Child’s Play in case anyone was interested in reading it.

Since almost all the posts will be related to Eco babies; I didn’t want to inundate the readers of Accidental Environmentalists with baby talk (if you don’t have children… I know how uninteresting THAT topic can be). Stop on by and let me know what you think and more regular updates to follow soon.

Being a new parent is a daunting task. Being a new parent and starting a new gig is well.. just plain out crazy! But that’s what I did. I am very excited to announce that I joined the Green Options Network and will be a contributing writer to Eco Child’s Play, Green Parenting for Non-toxic, Healthy Homes.

I admit, I have gotten a bit obsessed with creating the most natural and non-toxic home for my little one, and this is one way I can utilize all that focus. And being part of growing green network is truly an honor. Anyways come visit my author’s page and don’t forget to subscribe to stay up to date on my latest efforts of going green. Of course I will still work hard on this blog.. my original baby.

and because I am a proud mama; I will post another picture of my daughter, Layla.

Let Us Move into the Future with Clean Energy Economy

I am really loving this poster from the Sierra Club. This is what they had to say

We want to convince folks that moving to a Clean Energy Economy is doable, and in fact, we’ve done it before. In World War II, we came together as a nation and retooled on a dime to do what was needed to win the war. Time Magazine actually just picked up on this with their latest cover on Climate Change - that the challenges we face today are similar to the challenges we faced during WWII.

And I just want to say “Happy Earth Day” may every day be a happy one to the planet and ourselves.

vote

In honor of Pennsylvania’s Primaries; (where I currently reside) I decided to do a post about your suffrage rights. I believe politics like religion is a private matter and I don’t have any desire to know who you decide to vote for. However, I do believe that you should exercise the right that so many have fought for and even died for.

I admit that this election is the first where I will cast a ballot for a candidate that I am passionate about. Although the Environment and Global Warming has taken the back-burner to more pressing issues such as the war and the economy; I know that this is the one and only way that my voice will get heard. Even though it’s only one vote. One voice, it is still mine to proudly give. If enough voice gets heard, perhaps the politicians will truly consider the voices of the people… not big businesses and lobbyists.

Together we will make a difference.  Just remember…

“It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly’s wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world.”

Hey Mr. Green is a Mix of Chutzpa and Great Green Advice

Hey Mr Green book cover
Sierra Club is one of the foremost sites on sustainable living and they also publish a magazine column where “the answer guy” tackles the toughest green living questions. And now there’s a compliation of the most difficult which include topics such as dry cleaning, food, and even cremation delivered into a 200 odd page book.

Mr. Green is the name given to Bob Schildgen where he dishes out sound Eco-friendly advice that also includes bit of mirth and wit. It’s not hard core environmentalist stance but offers practicality as well as common sense. For example:

Hey Mr. Green

I am trying not to buy bottled water, but I want a five-gallon jub with a spigot to put water or juice in for picnics. Is there any safe material? They all seem to be made of some kind of plastic.

Plastic may have been the miracle material of the twentieth century but it’s become the conumdrum of our time. With seven types of plastics being used for food and beverages, researchers are still trying to ascertain the possible harmful effects of each….the three safest plastics are #2HDPE, #4LDPE, and #5PP. With any type of plastic, possibly toxic substances are more likely to be realeased when the container is scratched and worn inside, is heated or is filled with hot, oily, or acidic foods. Never microwave food inside a plastic container unless it has specifically been approved for that use.

It also includes notations in the back with websites where you can learn more about the topics covered. It’s well researched but not difficult to understand. Laying it out in layman’s terms; it goes down like sweet honey rather than vinegar. Just how I like it.
